

Ellen “Sissie” Doyle, age 76, went home to be with the Lord Friday, April 15, 2011 in Houston, Texas. Sissie was born February 14, 1935 in Boston Massachusetts. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Honora Hayes and husband Joseph Doyle, Jr. and survived by daughter: Ellie Vanderpool and husband Chuck; sons: Jeremiah F. Doyle and wife Paula, Joseph F. Doyle, III and wife Ginger; grandchildren: Jeremy William Doyle, Norine Vanderpool, Cody Doyle, Jonathan Doyle, Mackensey Doyle and Erin Doyle, in addition to her sister Catherine “Chickie” Doyle, daughter by choice Terry Allen and by all the military families that Sissie has loved and helped all over the world. Sissie was a graduate of Arch Bishop Cushing High School in Boston, Mass. She spent many years as a volunteer with the American Red Cross and developed the Learn to Swim programs at both Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo and the Taipei Youth Activities Center in Taiwan. She taught swimming and emergency First Aide to military active duty personnel and their dependents. Under her direction the Learn to Swim program hosted more than 500 dependent children each summer. When her husband SFC Joseph Doyle Jr. was stationed in Taiwan, Sissie served as the Pool manager for the TDYAP and Grass Mountain pools. She helped train U. S. Navy divers and the Taiwanese underwater demolition team and coached the Taipei Marlin Swim Team. Sissie served as President of both the Goodfellow NCO Wives club and the Ladies Auxiliary of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. She was also active in the National League of Families for Missing in Action. Visitation will be 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Rosary Monday, April 18, 2011 in the Chapel of Earthman Resthaven. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 19th. Services will also be held 9:00 a.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Johnson Funeral Home, 435 W. Beauregard Ave. San Angelo, Texas. Rite of Commital will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Texas Art Education Association Memorial Scholarship Fund at www.taea.org.
