One of the many, many things I learned from Ron was that a quiet person can have a great deal of influence on others.  Ron was a guy dedicated to content and not volume and I think we need more people like that - not fewer.  He will be missed.

I enjoyed working with Ron, he always had great patience to take the time to ensure questions were answered. His friendly ways will last with us all forever.

Ron and I worked together for a number of years at Houston Industries, Reliant, Centerpoint from the late eighties and nineties supporting the various Financial Applications, including the Accounting Information Systems (AIS). During all that time, he was an OK guy, despite his penchant for "jumping out of perfectly good airplanes".
 My condolences to his family and friends due to his untimely passing.

I first met Ron in 1975 when I started skydiving. Since then we had many road trips to Florida. I was an honor to know him. Another one of us West Texas boys.

Let the winds blow you gently my direction, and may some of your greatness rest on my lawn for eternity.

Great skydiving with you over the years Ron and doing the TeXXas Meets.  It was always a blast. May you always be in blue skies.

I've known Ron since I moved to Houston in the early 1980's to skydive.  He was a great skydiver and always fun and quirky.  You just get to know people on a different level when you share a common sport like skydiving and hang out every weekend for years.  He was ever supportive of our "Hurricanes" endeavor.  Every batch of tee shirts we had made we did some in ash gray for Ron; that's the only color he'd wear...not white!  :) Fly High Ron!

First met Ron at SDH in the mid-90s, and had the pleasure to know and jump with him over the years since.  One of the highlights of any day was a 'Ron Mills jump' since you knew it would challenge and teach you something since no two were alike, and came from a place of skill and knowledge very few of us can go.  You are missed my friend.

I worked with Ron for almost 3 years. He has guided and helped me in many ways specially on technical areas.He was the 1st person to come to office early at 6 AM and used to send me an email just to make sure I have taken care of open issues/abends. His absence will be a loss for the organization.

I worked with Ron for many of my years at HL&P / Centerpoint / Reliant and first met him while in a systems role in Plant Accounting.  My initial impression was that he was the helpful quirky tech guy.  He always had the answer or work diligently to get the answer.  

Years later I became a late-in-life college student.  Ron always had an encouraging word during my years of working full time and attending school part time.  He promised to treat me to lunch once I graduated.  Those of us that know, getting Ron to pay for lunch was a rarity.  He held true to his promise.

He was definitely a memorable, very kind and sincere person.   My condolences to his family.

Ron and I were the first ones in the office every day and we enjoyed our quiet times together before everyone else showed up. He was always willing to help out a friend. I appreciated his comforting words and support during my difficult time not so long ago. He was a wonderful friend and I will miss him greatly.

Ron will leave a big hole in Houston skydiving -- not just because of the jumps he organized, but because of his example in making sure it stayed fun for him, and keeping its proper place in a full life.

We remember Ron in his younger years as a fearless skydiver, intrepid hiker, loyal co-worker.  He was a fighter to the end to beat the odds against his cancer.  We are deeply saddened by today’s news.

I extend my deepest sympathy to Ron’s family.  Ron was a mentor to us all.  I had the pleasure of working with him for the past ten years.  He will be sorely missed.

Ron was a major figure in the skydiving community, especially in the formation relative work arena and was one of the originators of the Night StarCrest Skydiver Award (a night hoop dive).  His knowledge and skills will be missed.  I had the privilege of jumping with him for many years and I was always in awe of his accomplishments.  Blue Skies Ron!

I am deeply saddened at Ron's passing. Ron and I spent many years working together at HL&P on the financial systems. Ron and I spent many years attending college after work and competing for who could make the best grade in the classes. Ron was one of the most generous and best friends that I had.

I have not seen Ron for a couple of years as I have not made a skydive in a while.  I wish I had known he was sick so I could have seen him again before he died.  My heart is sad to lose such a sweet friend.  Ron's skydives were the most interesting and brain challenging jumps anyone ever created.  We jumped together for several years and his fun jumps were the best!  Ron was truely one of a kind!  I will miss him.  Cheryl Ellisor

Ron was such an interesting person.  We worked together for many years, and it is such a loss.  I am so sorry for his family.  He will be missed.  We spent many hours talking about sailing and his parachuting adventures.  He always had a welcoming smile and a thoughtful word to give me.  I considered him a friend and will always remember him.

Please accept my condolences, regretably I'm out of town and won't return until late Friday. I'll miss Ron's tenacity and attention to detail. He was a good friend!

My prayers and condolences go out to Mills Family in this trying time. Ron was great colleague and would give you the shirt off of his back if you needed assistance. He will be deeply missed. 

It was always interesting to try to keep up with the "Adventures of Ron" on his hiking trips. He must have visited most of the National Parks in the lower 48 and in Canada for his hiking excursions.  And the amazing thing is that he made plans for his next adventure almost a year in advance. 

His skydiving stories were also very interesting. He was almost ho hum about all of the major skydiving contests, since he had down everything in the sport. He would always comment that most skydiving accidents were caused by some aggressive form of skydiving activity: too much wind, excessive parachute designs, to many trick artists in the sport, too much cloud cover, etc. Ron was a careful and a meticulous skydiver. He wouldn't jump if one of his list of "don't" occurred.

Coreta, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Please know that my prayers and thoughts are with you and your family during this time of sadness. If you need anything please let me know. Just remember when we are weak, that He is strong.

It has been my great pleasure to know Ron for over 20 years.  Our association started at Houston Lighting and Power in the mid 1980's when Ron was providing IT support for our work group. 

At that time I was astonished to find that He was one of the skydivers in a picture on the front page of the Houston Chronicle newspaper. 

Over the intervening years, He and I became business associates and ultimately, friends.  I enjoyed razzing and needling him and I think He enjoyed needling me back as well. He was, inspirational to me as a model of integrity and commitment. When Ron was handling something, you just knew it was in good hands. His planning efforts and documentation are legendary with his business colleagues. 

He will be greatly missed, not only as a great business colleague but as a great human being.

I can not tell you how many hours Ron spent helping me out with special projects at work.  He was never too busy to help me.  He will be missed!
