He graduated from University of St. Thomas in Houston 1974, with a BA in Psychology. He also was active in getting a his PhD in Clinical Psychology, but retired from the field in 1984.
He was actively involved with Midtown Redevelopment District in Houston, Texas where he was involved with the Board of Directors in developing the area in downtown Houston. He was active in the Democratic Party where he served as delegate to Local, State and national conventions as well as volunteered on many political campaigns. He was a big contributor to many different non-profit organizations like the ELCA, ASPCA, IBEW and many others.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents Emil Henry Harbers and Alma Mary Stasney-Harbers, and his
father Emery Henry Harbers.
Scott is survived by his husband, Albert Richard Acker III, brother Richard Henry Harbers and his wife Andrea Sue Harbers. Nephews Andrew Henry Harbers and Richard Edward Harbers. Grandnephews Aiden Hoyt Harbers and Brett Allen Harbers. His adopted family, son Rodolfo Acevedo and wife Consuelo H Acevedo, and grandchildren Andrew Scott Acevedo and Jonathan Michael Acevedo.
A visitation for Emery will be held Friday, November 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Friday, November 1, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the committal service.
Serving as pallbearers are Richard Edward Harbers, Andrew Edward Harbers, Richard Henry Harbers, Brett Allen Harbers , Aiden Hoyt Harbers, Rudy Acevedo, Andrew Scott Acevedo and Jonathan Michael Acevedo.
