Bernice is preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a nephew. She is survived by her sisters, Frances R. Tiemann and Marie A. Melde; two nephews and a niece and their families.
Bernice was baptized into the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Houston and reconfirmed her faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She was a 1947 graduate of Reagan High School. She was employed for over forty years as librarian at the Shell Research and Development Lab in Bellaire, a job she enjoyed immensely and performed with great expertise.
The Lutheran Church was always a very important part of Bernice's life. She faithfully attended Sunday morning services and group bible study. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was an active volunteer in church activities.
Bernice enjoyed working in her yard and was especially proud of her backyard gardens of flowers and vegetables. In her spare time, she could be found in her workshop, where she created all sorts of wood crafts. Friends and family were all especially lucky to receive her uniquely-crafted birdhouses. Bernice had a great love for animals, especially her cats.
