

Frank E. Becan, born in Chicago, IL on December 14, 1917, passed away on March 29, 2012, after living in Houston, Texas for over 90 years. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Blanche Becan who had immigrated from what is now the Czech Republic. Frank graduated from Reagan High School and went to Massey Business College to pursue accounting. He became part owner of Beacon Supply Company and worked until retiring in 1992. But he was persuaded to come to work at Insultherm, Inc. by his son-in-law, Mark McBride and he worked into his nineties. Frank was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 72 years, Dorothy Sturm Becan. Frank is survived by his daughter, Louise Beaulier, husband Darrell, his daughter, Dr. Kathleen Becan-McBride, husband, Mark; his adoring grandchildren, Dr. Holly Weimar, husband John; Stephen Becan, wife Marie; Patrick McBride, wife Ade; Jonathan McBride, wife Danielle. His adoring great-grandchildren, John Weimer, Alan Weimar, Alyssia Becan, Megan Becan, Finnaveir McBride and Madeleine McBride. Frank also leaves special nieces and nephews from both the Becan and Sturm families.
Frank, a man well liked, gentle and respected by everyone he met, was deeply loved by his family. He participated in many Czech plays through the Houston SPJST and other Czech events and was a member and President in the Spring Branch Oaks Civic Club for many years.
Visitation was from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Waltrip Funeral Directors, where the funeral service was held at 10:00 a.m., Monday in the chapel. Interment followed in Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of customary remembrances and due to Frank’s love of animals, a donation may be made to the Houston SPCA or your choice of animal rescue group.
