Born in Houston, Texas, on November 30, 1947 to Fred, Sr. and Elizabeth Maze. Fred attended Jefferson Davis High School where he played football, sang in the glee club, and met his sweetheart and wife of 50 years, Lindy. After attending Sam Houston State University, he had a successful career in the beer business at Falstaff, Miller, and Budweiser. That career afforded him a well-lived life and a room full of beer steins.
Fred was a devoted animal lover. If an animal needed rescued, he rescued it; birds, donkeys, you name it; the Maze home for wayward animals was always open. His companions Rusty, Stubby, and Roscoe will be at the gates of heaven to rescue him.
An active community member, Fred served as a volunteer fire fighter, a 32nd degree Mason at Masonic Lodge 1174, and was a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo Aldine/Spring/Klein Houston-Metro Go Texan committee.
Fred was a dedicated family man. His world revolved around Lindy and their children: Fred Robert “Freddy,” Maze, III and his wife, Mechelle, and Robin Maze Lee and her husband, Rick. The sun rose and set in his grandchildren, Brittany, her husband Tracer, Heather, Katie and her husband, Dustin, Mitchell, and his great-grandchildren Vaughn, Easton, Samantha, and Paisley, Alex and Jayce. “Papa Fred” was larger than life. Fred is also survived by his favorite (only) sister, Carrie Sample and her husband, Larry, their children Russell and Donna, his favorite (only) sister-in-law, Tina Howard, her children, Matt and Mandy, husband, Steve, and a whole bunch of great nieces and nephews. Friends – too many to count. Fred never met a stranger.
As his hero, John Wayne would say, “If I had it to do all over again, I’d probably do everything I did.”
