Georgia Olsovsky Matusek

She was born to Frank G. and Sophie (Jasek) Olsovsky on Dec. 10, 1926 near Wallis, Texas, as the 4th of 7 children. They moved to Novohrad, Texas (near Praha) when she was 11 years old. She has many memories of farm life, some good, some bad. They picked many a bale of cotton and prayed a daily Rosary. She later moved to Houston where she met and married the love of her life, Louis E. (Joe) Matusek, another transplant from country life. After having their 5 children, Georgia helped Joe start a new air conditioning and heating business, Care Service Company, where she served as secretary from 1970- 2005. They were Charter Members of St. Jerome Catholic Church in west Houston. After Joe’s death in 1999, she attended daily Mass and led the Rosary.

She is predeceased by her parents and all siblings except her youngest brother Ben Olsovsky, her husband of 51 years Joe Matusek, 2 sons, David Matusek and Don Matusek, and a great-grandchild Penelope Steele. She is survived by 3 children and spouses: Louis F. (Jeannine) Matusek of La Grange, TX, Jackie (James) Chude of Fredericksburg TX and Jimmie Matusek of Houston. Also a daughter in law, Judy Matusek (David’s widow) of Hempstead TX. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren: Erin Matusek (Carroll Ridenour) of Chantilly VA, Shannon (Mike) Steele of Kyle TX, Jennifer (Ron) Tompkins of Hempstead, Louis E. (Christine) Matusek of Bellville, Becki (Adam) Hudson of Houston, Colin (Sarah) Chude and Nicki (Randy) Heiner, all of San Antonio, Jenee’ (John) Whitney of Austin and Mariah (Billy) Bonham of New Braunfels. Georgia is also survived by 26 great-grandchildren: Adriana Saravia, Shelby (Daylen) Turk, Neva and Wyatt Gregory, Louie Steele, Tristan Lampkin, Tori and Taylor Tompkins, Kaleb and Kaydence Matusek, Jasper, Fleur and Xander van Gestel, William, Eleanor, Edward, Constance and Mark Chude, Alex and Logan Heiner, Philomena, Justin, Tobias, Cecilia, Theodore and Ingrid Whitney, 5 bonus greats, Evan and Addi Hudson, Zachary, Jonathan Tannone, and Clay Tompkins as well as her first great-great-grandchild, Henry Turk. She was thrilled to have so many granddaughters for whom to sew clothes or buy dolls. She has also left us her strong beliefs in God, family, hard work, laughter and love of Dr. Pepper and good food, especially kolaches.

If desired, donations in her memory may be made to the Texas Czech Heritage and Cultural Center in La Grange, Texas, to St. Jerome’s Catholic Church in Houston, or to the charity of your choice.

In honor of her Czech heritage, we are passing along the words to the Sign of the Cross in Czech.

Visitation with the family will begin at 9:00 a.m., Thursday, January 30, 2025 at St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Drive, Houston, Texas 77080. The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m with the Funeral Mass being celebrated at 10:00 a.m. The Rite of Committal will be in Houston National Cemetery.
