

Germaine Sylvester Kvinta of Houston, Texas – formerly a resident of La Marque, Texas, for 30 years – passed from this life on December 7, 2025. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 38 years, John Frank Kvinta Jr., her parents Wilfred Sylvester and Olivia Lafleur Sylvester, brother Reverend Wilfred Sylvester, and sisters Rose Robert, Mary Pitre, Dolores Cormier, Barbara Ziegler, and her granddaughter Michelle Bergeron.
Loving survivors include her son John Kvinta and daughter-in-law Jan Kvinta of Sugarland, Texas, and their four children, Kelsey Kvinta (and son-in-law to be, Matthew Manning), David Kvinta, Shelby Kvinta, and Mark Kvinta; her son Paul Kvinta and daughter-in-law Becky Kurtz of Atlanta, Georgia, and their daughter Marcela Kvinta; her daughter Kamala Bergeron and son-in-law Brian Bergeron of Houston, Texas, and their three children and respective spouses, Matthew and Emily Bergeron, Olivia and Noah Giese, and Jacque and Adam Hoard; her three great grandchildren, Benjamin Bergeron, George Giese, and Eli Hoard; her brother Berchman Sylvester of Opelousas, Louisiana, her sister Monica Cooper of Huntsville, Texas, and her sisters-in-law Hattie Kvinta, of Houston, Texas, Emily Polasek of Houston, Texas, and Margie Kvinta of Yoakum, Texas; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Germaine was born on April 23, 1933, in Opelousas, Louisiana. She graduated from the Academy of the Immaculate Conception in Opelousas. She then graduated from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing in Beaumont, Texas, and became a registered nurse. For several years she was head nurse of post-surgery at John Sealy Hospital in Galveston, Texas. She moved to Houston, Texas, and worked at Houston Methodist Hospital. She was known as a very caring and kind nurse.
Germaine attended St. Ann Catholic Church in Houston and was a member of the St. Ann Adult Singles Club. It was at this club where she met her future husband, John. They raised three children in La Marque, Texas. More than anything, Germaine loved being a mother and grandmother. She was affectionately known as Dee by her grandchildren.
For decades Germaine was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church in La Marque. She served on the Parish Counsel and was a member of the Ladies Guild and the KJZT Society. She was active in her children’s activities at Queen of Peace Elementary School and was a room mother for all of her children. She did volunteer student health screening. She was also active in her sons’ Little League. She was a member of the Pilot Club of La Marque and served on the Red Cross Board.
In 2004 Germaine moved to League City. She was member of St. Mary Catholic Church and active in the Bells of St. Mary Altar Society. In her later years she moved to Village of the Heights in Houston, where she received excellent and attentive care from the staff.
Germaine liked playing bridge and going to lunch with special friends and neighbors. She was a devout Catholic and enjoyed attending Mass and various church functions. She was most happy in the company of her family, especially her grandchildren.
A visitation for immediate family will be held for Germaine at Heights Funeral Home in Houston on December 22 at 4 p.m. At 5 p.m. there will be an open visitation and reception, followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. The funeral service will take place at All Saints Catholic Church in the Houston Heights on December 23 at 10 a.m.
