

Gertrude C. Scales was born August 31, 1931 to the late Virgil Lee Collins and Millie Collins in Anderson, TX. At an early age she moved to Courtney, TX where she met the love of her life Jesse Scales, Jr. which she married in November 1947, to this union nine children was born. Gertrude accepted Christ and began working and serving diligently for the Lord. She was a member of Hill Zion Baptist Church where she served as a member of the nursing board. She later joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Sherman West in which is now named Southeast Community Church. She served as a member for thirty-nine years. She was a member of the Usher Board and served as Deaconesses for thirty-four years. She was a woman of God, a great mother and devoted wife who truly loved her husband. She was devoted housewife for sixty-six years and also a woman of integrity with strong morals. Reading the book of Psalms was her favorite especially Psalms 23. She loved to bake her family teacakes for the Christmas season and give her grandchildren a $1 for their birthdays. She was preceded in the death by her husband Jesse Scales Jr. and her parents, Virgil Lee Collins & Millie Collins; her three brothers Alfred Collins, James Collins, and Griffin Collins and her sister Pearlie Branch and son, Marty M Scales and great granddaughter Kaley Dupars. She leaves to cherish her memories her four sisters: Maggie Norton, Millie Williams, Alma Wade-Jackson, Margie Martin and her brother Virgil Collins her eighth children: Jessie M. Dupars, Ruby Diggs, Mildred A. Ward, Vernon Scales, Clyde A. Scales, Beverly J Mahoney, Joyce Scales, and Robert J Scales; two daughter in laws Andrea and Fabile; two son in laws: Mathis Dupars and Willie Mahoney; twenty-five grandchildren, fifty-eight great grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.
