Gladys Schmelter

She was born August 2nd 1913 to Christine Pauline (nee Holen) and George Jesse Oscar Billert in Waco, Texas

Gladys graduated high school in Paris, Texas at the age of 16 then went on to attend Rice University in Houston

She married Arnold George Correll in 1933 and had three children. Arnold along with his best friend John Schmelter started Houston Concrete Product in 1938 and raised their families next door to each other. Arnold passed away with cancer in 1945 leaving Gladys with three young children to raise. She was an accomplished pianist and organist and gave lessons as well as taught school at Bethany Lutheran School in Houston. In 1961 after getting reacquainted with a now widowed John Schmelter they Married and joined their children and grandchildren. John passed away in 1979.

Gladys is preceded in death by her parents, Husbands, Arnold Correll & John Schmelter, Also son Charles Correll Sr., her step children, Esther Ruth Weber, John Schmelter Jr, Richard Schmelter, & Kathy Schmelter, grandsons John Schmelter III & Loren Schmelter. She is survived by Daughter Joyce Correll Butts & Son Stanley Correll . Also Grandchildren: Tom Butts, Ruthanna Butts Burchfield, Christine Correll, Robin Correll Fannin, Andrew Correll, Janet Correll Allen, Amanda Correll, Shelly Correll, Charles Correll Jr. Julie Correll Russell, Jon Booth, Gilbert Meltvelt, Ruthann Weber, Kathy Schmelter Neal, Roger Schmelter, Doreen Schmelter Fisher, Bill Spears, Randall Schmelter, Brandi Schmelter Schroeder, Bradley Schmelter. Also many Great & Great Great Grandchildren.

The viewing will be Friday July 17th, from 5-8 at Heights Funeral Home 1317 Heights Blvd. 77008

The funeral services will be held on July 18th 11am at Our Savior Lutheran Church 5000 Tidwell 77091

Graveside service will be immediately following at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery 13102 North Frwy 77060
