TRIBUTE  TO  A  LOVE  STORY

I do not claim to have known Sue very well. In fact, I only saw her three or four times, including the day of her beloved husband's funeral, almost 18 years ago.  Her soulmate, DJ Castillo, I have known almost since the day we were born, in 1936. I still claim him as my very best friend, ever. Through the years, I shared the up's and down's of DJ's life, including the time we were stationed in Germany while in the US Army, and then later through the college years. 

Throughout all this time, DJ was like an incomplete portrait, in search of the artist who would complete him. He found that person in Sue, and I dare say, she also found her soulmate in him.  It was the beginning of a love story that would last beyond DJ's passing in 2007, and that will continue now beyond Sue's passing. Because that is the way true love is; it transcends the loss of our physical presence here on earth and it transforms itself into our spiritual presence into the universe.  And that is where DJ and Sue are now. Love is the only thing we take with us, and the only thing we leave behind. That, above all else, is the greatest mystery and the greatest gift.


DJ and Sue will always be with us, because they have left their love with us - - in our memories, our thoughts, our shared experiences,.  Through their love, they have made us who we are.  - - we are their legacy. 

What a gift they are, and blessed are we in receiving that gift, and sharing it with those we love. In doing so, it iwill be our tribute to their life, their marriage, and to the love they had for each other. Now and forever more.

My sincere condolences to the Castillo Family. It is always difficult to experience the death of a loved one, but particularly difficult around a holiday like Thanksgiving. One can only take comfort in the knowledge that she is in the arms of Our Lord and in the presence of other family members that have gone before her. Our prayers and thoughts are with you this Thanksgiving.
