Greta Alwayne Watts

Greta ‘Gaye’ A. Watts, 89, of McKinney, TX, passed away on January 27, 2025. Greta was born on March 14, 1935, in Olustee, OK, to Spurgeon and Elsie (O’Neal) Turner. She grew up in Houston, TX, and graduated from Jefferson Davis High School. Greta married Robert L. Strayer in 1955, and they had five children. She was active in church and worked many years with Boys and Girls Country in Houston, Tx. She was active in the WOW group and Marathon Class at Stonebriar Church in Frisco, Texas. Greta was a long-time student at the Bible Study Foundation. Greta’s passion was painting and making crafts, which her friends and family cherished.

She met and married John R. Watts in 1983. They traveled the world, seeing new places, making new friends, and having many adventures. After John died in 2007, Gaye continued to be active in her church and local charities.

In 2005, Greta lost her youngest son, Gregory Leland Strayer, to cancer.

Greta is survived by her children, Elaine Strayer Ruff; Bradley Strayer and his wife, Jan Strayer; Jeffrey Strayer; Jane Strayer Mouton and her husband, Rodney Mouton.

Her grandchildren and their families also survive her: Baylee Strayer Bolton and her husband Brant Bolton, and great-grandson, Bryce; Leslie Ruff DeJong and great-grandchildren, Cambria, Kylee, and AJ; Greg Strayer’s daughter, Sarah Strayer; Nicole Mouton Gress and her husband, Austen Gress,and great-granddaughter Remi; David Ruff and his wife Sierra Ruff and great-granddaughter Salem; Josh and Kate Mouton.

A visitation for Greta will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A celebration of life will occur Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, at 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A committal will occur on Thursday, February 6, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 3:30 at Earthman Resthaven Cemetery, 13102 North Hwy, Houston, TX 77060.
