

Hazel Vertis Bates-Adams was born April 02, 1937 in Liberty, Mississippi to Fred and Emma Bates who both preceded her in death. She was the youngest of the two children; her only brother Lantis Samuel Bates who preceded her in death. Hazel attended school in Amite County School District, she also attended Houston Community College in Houston, TX where she received her Degree in Business Administration and she later attended Southwest Mississippi Community College for her Degree as a Para-Professional Educator.
In the late 1940’s Hazel was relocated to New Orleans, LA with her family. Later in life she met Eddie Raymond Adams who was a veteran in the military. Eddie R. Adams and Hazel V. Bates-Adams were united in Holy Matrimony on March 22, 1957 until the Lord called him home on March 03, 1994. To this union was born seven surviving children, Eddie R. Adams, Jr., Pleasant M. Adams, Fredrick Adams, Gainel Adams-Turner, Norman K. Adams (Stephanie), Elder Gregory D Adams, and Emma J Adams-Morris (Silvester) and two deceased, Isaac Anthony Adams, and Reginald Samuel Adams.
Hazel was saved and received the Holy Ghost in May 1960 at East 37th Street Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Pastor F.L. Glenn. Hazel severed many years in the ministry with the late Pastor Eddie R. Adams, Sr. Hazel received her Evangelist Missionary License through Texas South Central Jurisdiction, under the late Presiding Bishop C. H. Nelson, and State Supervisor Mother Eloise Law. Years later she was appointed District Missionary of Houston Central District where the late Bishop A. C. Nelson was Superintendent at that time.
After serving within the Church of God in Christ in the Houston TX area for over 35 years, District Missionary Hazel Adams relocated to Mississippi. While in Mississippi she continued her Christian journey and served as a substitute teacher for the Amite County School District. She has always loved children, and successfully retired from this position as a Para-Professional Educator.
On Sunday, March 7th, 2021 District Missionary Hazel V. Bates-Adams departed this life to be at rest. She leaves to cherish her memory her seven children: Eddie R. Adams, Jr., Pleasant M. Adams, Fredrick Adams, Gainel Adams-Turner, Norman K. Adams (Stephanie), Elder Gregory D Adams, and Emma J Adams-Morris (Silvester); 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, many dear friends who love her dearly, and church family.
