Hazel Jewell Whorton

Hazel Jewell Whorton went to be with her Lord and Savior January 13, 2012. Hazel was the beloved wife of 57 years to husband Dean Whorton. A longtime resident of Houston, Hazel was born and raised in Franklin, Texas. After moving to Houston, she met the love of her life, Dean. She was an active member of Faith Assembly and Grace Church Garden Oaks. Hazel is preceded in death by her husband, Dean Whorton, sons Larry and Danny Whorton, parents Floyd and Nancy Elliot and brother Floyd “Sonny” Elliot. She is survived by her sister Elaine Jones of La Porte; children Mr. and Mrs. Doug and Linda Lewis of Tomball, Mr. and Mrs. Joey and Kristin Whorton of Jersey Village and Mrs. Jeanne Whorton of Rockwall; grandchildren Mr. and Mrs. Trent and Shanna Barger of Houston, Mr. and Mrs. Ryan and Laura Whorton of Cypress, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher and Lindsey Lewis of Omaha, Nebraska, Mr. Robbie Whorton of Cypress and Mr. and Mrs. Jordan and Jackie Lewis of Kingwood; great-grandchildren Grayson, Ava Clair and Henry Barger of Houston, Rileigh Whorton of Cypress; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 16, 2012, from 5 to 9 o'clock in the evening at Forest Park Lawndale, located at 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, Texas, 77023. Funeral services will be held on Tueday, January 17, 2012, at 1 o'clock in the afternoon at Forest Park Lawndale's Main Chapel and officiated by D. Trent Barger. Graveside and burial will follow immediately at Forest Park Lawndale. Special thanks to the doctors and nurses in the Stroke and ICU unit at Memorial Hermann-Medical Center and Memorial City Hospital.
