

Henry Cortez, 85, entered into eternal rest on Monday, June 13, 2022. He was born December 20, 1936 in Houston, TX. Henry was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps from June 26, 1956 to May 18, 1958, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Upon his discharge, he was employed at various times with Shamrock Hilton's Top of the Mark, Borden's , and Oak Farms Dairy.
Henry loved listening to the sounds of Glen Miller, Tommy Dorsey, and the many classic songs of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Ella Fitzgerald. He had a beautiful singing voice and would play his albums and sing along with his favourite singer, Ol' Blue Eyes. Henry had a penchant for drawing, mainly cartoons, and would add certain Houston landmarks in his drawings. He had the most infectious laugh, a great sense of humor, and a gift of storytelling.
Henry is preceded in death by his son, Christopher Cortez; mother, Julia Stuart Cortez; father, John Cortez; brothers, Eddie Cortez, and John Gilbert Medinilla; niece, Christine Meza Del Campo. He is survived by his loving family of 3 sisters, Raquel Cortez of Commerce, CA, Irene Meza (Paul) of Houston, TX, and Rebecca Loper (Carl) of Houston, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; former wife, Otelia "Tillie" Cortez.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2022 from 5-8 PM at Heights Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held the following afternoon at 12:30 PM at the Houston National Cemetery.
