It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Hilda Milagros Casimiro, known affectionately to many as Mamí, Abuela, or Tía Hilda. The beloved matriarch of our family passed away peacefully on July 16, 2025 surrounded by love and prayers; just short of reaching the age of 101. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in love, deep family bonds, and unwavering faith in Christ.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eleuterio González & Leonela Del Río Legrá, her eleven siblings, and her devoted husband, Luis Casimiro. She is survived by her children Jorge L. Casimiro (Sonia) and Hilda Susana Delgado (Juan Carlos), eight grandchildren, twenty-one great-grandchildren, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Her presence will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
Hilda’s journey was one of courage, faith, and fierce love for her family. In the 1960s, she immigrated to the United States from Cuba with her husband, two young children, and her oldest sister, leaving behind the comfort of an extended family support system to pursue a new life. She faced the challenges of resettling in a foreign land with resilience and grace, adapting to new customs, forging lasting friendships, and reconnecting with distant relatives.
A devout Catholic, Hilda’s unwavering faith guided her through every chapter of life. Her love for God was the foundation of her strength, and she lived each day with gratitude, humility, compassion, and a cafectio or two. She instilled these values in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, laying the roots for the vibrant, loving, and close-knit family we are proud to call our own today.
Hilda was naturally social, cheerful, and deeply appreciative of the people in her life. She had a passion for staying connected—always connecting with family/friends over the phone or writing and receiving letters from family in Cuba and across the U.S. If you had the pleasure of knowing her, you know: she never forgot a birthday, an anniversary, or any special moment. Her cards—always perfectly chosen—were delivered without fail, often adorned with heartfelt notes that showed how deeply she cared. She may very well have kept the Hallmark Store in business.
Hilda leaves behind a family who adored her and a legacy of compassion, gratitude, and joyful connection. She taught us that love can be written in a letter, sealed in an envelope, and passed down through generations.
We will miss her dearly, but we carry her memory in every birthday card, every story shared, and every hug given in her name.
A visitation will be held at St. Theresa Catholic Church, located at 6622 Haskell St, Houston, TX 77007, on July 26, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:30 am.
