Born on August 7, 1970, at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, Maluki was the son of Howard and Bernadine Turnley. After graduating from Reagan High School, he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business from Texas Southern University. While working on his degree, Maluki worked in the offices of the Dean of the School of Business and chair of the accounting department. He loved most types of music but was especially fond of ‘old school’ R&B and had an extensive library of all the hottest records.
On May 27, 2000, Maluki married Nikki Ross at Good Hope Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. God blessed Nikki and Maluki with a son, Howard Maluki Turnley, Jr. Maluki was a loving and dedicated father to Howard, Jr. and Nikki’s earlier son, Joah Ross. He taught his boys to love and respect others and always to give their best effort regardless of the endeavor.
Maluki spent the majority of his career working at Northwest Educational Center as a Microsoft applications instructor. He helped economically disadvantaged youth become better citizens. After leaving Northwest Educational Center, Maluki worked at Comcast Communications until his untimely death.
Maluki was a long-time, faithful member of Grace Church International in Houston, Texas, where he graduated from their leadership program. He deeply loved, honored, and respected the church, which showed through his commitment to tithing and endless dedication. He was always ready to do God’s work. Maluki was always willing to lend an ear if you had a problem and give spiritual guidance. However, you should not ask for his opinion if you did not want to hear the truth, but it always came from a place of love.
Maluki was a man who enjoyed experiencing life and helping others, but his passion was cooking great food. He was the epitome of a great chef. Although he didn’t have formal training, his food was second to none. Many visited his home to taste some of his delicious food and never left hungry.
In the short time Maluki was on this earth, he touched many people’s lives as a teacher, author, father, and friend. He is survived by his son Howard, Jr. Also left behind to mourn his passing are his mother and father, Bernadine and Howard Turnley; his brother Bryan Turnley, along with his wife and two children, Mascha, Tyler, and London; his sister D’Andrea M. Turnley, and many cousins, aunts, uncles and a host of friends who loved him dearly. Howard Maluki Turnley, Sr. will forever be loved and remain in our hearts.
