Hugh Nelson Brantley, Sr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. He was born on February 26, 1922, in Sandersville, GA, the third child of Roy R. Brantley and Ann Lee Garner Brantley. He began his aviation career during WWII at Brookley Field in Mobile, AL, and Robins AFB in Macon, Georgia. Following the war, he moved to Texas to join newly formed Pioneer Airlines before beginning a 40-year aviation career with Humble Oil, now ExxonMobil. The opportunity with Humble Oil also held a great deal of fortune in his personal life, as it was where he met the love of his life, Theodora Louise Bodron of Vicksburg, MS, with whom he would share 62 years of marriage. Throughout his life, Hugh was active in politics. He was an elected delegate to the national convention for the Republican Party and he served as campaign manager for US State Representative Ron Paul. He was also active in his church, singing in the choir. He played an active role in the lives of each of his children and his grandchildren. His life is a testament to an understanding of the value of hard-earned dollar and the invaluable, enduring nature of the relationships with those he dearly loved: his family and his friends. Hugh, a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, is survived by his wife, Theodora Louise, and their children: Brenda Louise Croucher and husband, Lee; Sheryl Lynn Latham and husband, Richard; Hugh Nelson Brantley, Jr. and wife, Valerie; and the fondest legacy of his life, his grandchildren: Brant, Lauren, Ashley, Benjamin, Tara and Hugh III. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sisters, Catharine and Elizabeth, and his brother, Roy Jr. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Champions Forest Baptist Church, 15555 Stuebner Airline Rd., Houston 77069, on December 3, 2012, at 2 PM. Donations may be made to Gideon’s International or any organization that supports veterans.
