Irven was born on September 28, 1927 to parents James and Bessie Atkinson. Irven was the eldest of 6 brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife of over 50 years, Judy Atkinson. He was preceded in death by his brother, J. T. Atkinson and sisters JoDean Wims, Eleanor Craig, and Marie Martindale. He is survived by his brother, Wallace Atkinson and wife Lisa. He is also survived by his children, Deborah Borah and Husband Kevin; Irven Jr and wife Marsha Atkinson; Grandson Gerald Crump and wife Jaimie; Grandson Jeff Atkinson and wife Karli; Granddaughter Julie Von Heimburg and husband Jed; Granddaughter Jodi Martin and Husband Steven; Irven was blessed to have 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Irven is survived by his wife Barbara Atkinson of New Braunfels, Tx.; her daughter Teresa and husband Clay, and granddaughters Hayden, Ashton and Kendall Jeffers; and her son Jason Arie.
Irven served as a a proud member of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean war where he was stationed in Austria. Irven learned how to snow ski during his tour in Austria. He had a passion for hunting, fishing, playing golf, traveling and most especially singing. He was a member of a Men's Barbershop singing group even into his 80's. He worked for National Life Insurance Co. for over 30 years. Both he and Judy made numerous trips in the states and abroad that he earned during his time with the company.
Irven loved the Lord and he served at various churches including Glen Rose Baptist, Cornerstone Baptist and Oakwood Baptist. He served as a Deacon for many years at various churches. Irven will be remembered by those who loved him as a good Husband, Father, Grandfather and friend to so many.
Services will be held at Earthman Resthaven in Houston, Tx on Monday, September 25 at 10:00AM.
