

He was preceded in death by his parents John and Annie Garies, daughter, Tanya Lynette Garies, brother Donald F. Garies, John Allen "Oscar" Garies, and granddaughter, Hannah Standridge.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Garies and daughter, Dana D. Garies & husband, Gary L. Kruse, Robert W. Smith and wife, Leigh Ann Smith, Tammie Self, Rodger Standridge and wife, Angela Standridge, Stephanie Stenner and husband, Jack Stenner, Grandchildren Kevin Kruse (Annah Claire), Matthew Kruse (Sarah), Alex Smith (Sara Beth), Eric Smith (Colin), Lara Smith, Sean Self (Stephanie), Travis Self (Brittany), Cody Self (Lauren), Kenny Self, Sydney Stenner, and numerous great grandchildren.
Irwin "Hap" graduated from Milby High School in 1955 and received his Bachelor of Business Administration, Production Management from the University of Houston in 1970 and his Masters of Science in Accounting from University of Houston - Clear Lake 1982. Hap spent many years as an Industrial Engineer and an Accountant with Armco Steel before creating his own bookkeeping and tax service, Garies Bookkeeping.
Hap was actively involved in his church, Crossroads United Methodist Church, as well as the Masonic Lodge and Shriners. Hap spent his life modeling a strong work ethic and focusing on his family and friends, always serving them sacrificially. He was always so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. His happy place was at home with his family, reminiscing on his front porch swing or spending time at his beach house in Galveston. He loved taking care of his yard and had one of the nicest well-kept yards in the neighborhood.
Hap was a deeply beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. He leaves a legacy of kindness, compassion and loving his family and friends with no limits.
