

James Atherton Chambers, age 84 of Katy passed away on Saturday, January 19, 2013. He was born October 9, 1928 over a bakery in Lexington, Kentucky to parents John and Marie Chambers. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Middleton, Ohio. In August 1943, when he was 13 years old the family moved to Jacinto City. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School and attended the University of Houston. He worked at various jobs before becoming employed by General Electric in 1951 and worked at the GE Apparatus Service shop as a stockroom clerk and selling electric motors and retired after 37 years. Jimmy served on the Jacinto City Council for 6 years as recreation director and city sewer and water manager. He was a member of the Houston County Forest Landowner Association. He was a member of the Church of God but in later years attended Second Baptist Church. He had a very inquisitive mind and this led him to far flung places around the world visiting other cultures on vacations. He married Marjorie Schuler in 1992. They enjoyed working on his farm, traveling the United States and Jimmy never passed up an opportunity to sing in church, German restaurants, or for family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Marjorie, step daughters Myrna Rychlik and husband Ken, Brenda Francis, Vincent Francis, nephew Michael Chambers and wife Delores, great nephew Clay Chambers and wife Ashley, 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild and brother-in-law George Trammell. Preceded in death were parents John and Marie Chambers, sister Joan Trammell and brother Joe Chambers.
Visitation will be at Waltrip Funeral Directors on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 from 6-8PM. Interment will be private.
