Jane Browder Madeley

Jane Browder Madeley, 96, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025. Born on Dec. 8, 1928, in Lovelady, Texas, to James and Frances Lundy Browder, Jane grew up in Trinity, Texas, and attended Sam Houston State University. She worked for many years at Houston Community College, where she built many lasting friendships.

Jane was a devoted mother to her sons and a loving grandmother and great-grandmother. Known for her love of people, she was cherished by a wide circle of friends. One of her greatest joys in life was caring for her loved ones. No one ever left Jane’s house without a home-cooked meal or special treat.

Jane is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Madeley; grandson, Zach Madeley; granddaughter, Cate Madeley Stephens and husband Matt Stephens; and great-grandson, Ben. She will also be missed by her nieces and their families–including Della and Mike Watson, Anna and José Gonzalez, Chris and Sarah Gonzalez, and Nina and Scott Spooner, Brandy Barnes and daughter Cora –as well as many wonderful extended family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Frances Browder; her brothers, Tom Browder and Dee Browder; her husband, Bill Madeley; and her sons, Gregg Madeley and Ken Madeley, niece Anne Browder Barnes. Jane’s family would like to extend their gratitude to Blue Star Hospice for their kindness and excellent care of Jane in her last few months, and to the wonderful ladies at Village Green Memory Care who watched over her during her last weeks.

The visitation will be Wednesday, July 9th from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Heights Funeral Home. A celebration of Jane’s life will take place at Waverly Presbyterian Church 591 Browder Loop West, New Waverly Texas 77358 on Thursday, July 10th at 10:30am, with the graveside service and reception to follow. Pallbearers will be Zach Madeley, Matt Stephens, Chris Gonzalez, Scott Spooner, Tony Ansari and Fielding Browder.

Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Traylor, Sterling Combs, Tom Pearce, Mike Watson, Jose Gonzalez, Steven Gould, Bill Hall, Joe F. Thornton, Gerald Madeley, Phil Madeley, Curtis Madeley, Gene Barnes, Randy Porter, Cabe Speary, John Speary, and Gus Speary.
