Jay "Skippy" Arnold Hunt

He was born in Houston, Texas on December 21, 1945. Jay Hunt graduated from Sam Houston High School, was drafted into the army and went to have a long career as a draftsman and piping designer working for Brown & Root, Lockheed Martin and Mustang. His strong work ethic and attention to detail were evident throughout his career, leaving a lasting impact on those he worked with.

Jay proudly served in the United States Army as a medic during the Vietnam War for three years. He survived an injury in battle and he was awarded the prestigious Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Sharpshooter (M-14 Rifle) and a Good Conduct Medal for his bravery and sacrifice. His service was a testament to his resilience, courage and dedication to his country.

Beyond his military and professional life, Jay had a deep love for golf, music, sports and cars. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life - whether it was playing a round of golf, listening to his favorite music or talking about the latest game.

Jay was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Carolyn Hunt and his parents Dorothy May Diffy and James Arnold Hunt.

He is survived by wife, Sherry Hunt; His children, Julie Sherber and husband, Jason D. Sherber, Jennifer Aune and Jason A. Hunt. His grandchildren, Carter Hunt and fiancé, Natalia Day, Kyla Aune, Maggie Hunt, Nolan Aune, Waylan Aune, Reagan Sherber and Reese Sherber.

His step-children, Shawne and husband, Scott Hebert; Step grandchildren, Savannah Mireles, Lexi Mireles, Layla Mireles, Braden Hebert and Nicholas Hebert.

Jay will be remembered for his quick wit, intellect and passion for things that brought him happiness. His memory will live on in hearts of those who knew and loved him.

A visitation for Jay, lovingly known as Skippy, will be held Wednesday, March 19, 2025 from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77060. A funeral service will take place Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at the same location, followed by a committal service with military honors on Thursday, March 20, 2025 from 12:45 PM to 1:15 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038.
