

Jean Ann Wilkins, late of Alvin, TX, was born August 8, 1937 in Refugio, TX to Will Tom and Mineola Mills. She passed away on April 4, 2011. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and brother – Thomas Alon Mills. Jean Ann grew up in Wharton, TX graduating from Wharton High School where she played French Horn in the Band and attended Wharton County Junior College. She moved to Houston, TX and worked for Fluor Industries where she met and married the love of her life – Curtis Wayne Wilkins. She worked as an Insurance Verifier and Cashier at Methodist Hospital for 17 years until her retirement in 1995. Jean Ann and Wayne just celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary February 7, 2011.
Together, Jean Ann and Wayne, reared 3 children: Thomas W. Wilkins and his wife, Gayle, of Willow Park, TX; Debra Wilkins-Bible and her husband, Joel Blunt of Lebanon, TN and Curtis T. Wilkins and his wife, Leonette of Cleveland, TX.
Jean Ann was a member of Almeda Baptist Church - Houston until the church relocated and became Southview Baptist Church – Rosharon. She was a faithful member of the choir at both churches and was a lifelong Sunday School teacher working with children, youth, young adults and – at her passing – Senior Adult Ladies.
Jean Ann had been a volunteer leader with Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts and enjoyed life with a passion. At one time, she even participated in a switching study for the local railroad – riding in locomotives and counting railroad cars as they entered and left specific switches along the rail line – a job she found most fun!
Jean Ann Wilkins is survived by her husband, 3 children, 7 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren, 2 nieces and 1 nephew – all of whom she loved with all of her being – and multitudes of friends. Her family wishes to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of M.D. Anderson Hospital who ministered to her and helped her in her valiant fight against the cancer that took her life. In addition, they wish to thank the doctors, nurses, aides and staff of Hospice Care of the Southwest and the staff of Westminster House of Kingwood, TX for their tender loving care and dedication to Jean Ann’s healthcare in her final days.
Viewing will be from 5-9 PM on Friday, April 8, 2011 at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home and Funeral Service will be at 2PM on Saturday, April 9, 2011 in the Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home Family Chapel. Interment will follow in Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
