

Jeanette Thurston, daughter of Eli and Evelyn Kane, was born on June 2, 1915 in Englishtown, New Jersey. She graduated high school in Manalapan Township NJ. She was baptized on August 3, 1927 into the fellowship of Second Baptist church in Freehold, NJ. Jeanette was joined in marriage to George C. Thurston on August 28, 1943. To this union one son was born, Donald George Thurston. The marriage was dissolved in 1951 and she remained single.
Jeanette was a faithful member of Second Baptist Church for seventy one years. Her years of church service included substituting for the church pianist and organist; teaching Sunday School to young children; singing with the church choir; and many other ministries. She served as Second Baptist church secretary for twenty three years.
Jeanette relocated to Houston, Texas in September 1998. Her church membership was transferred to Westway Baptist church. She participated in the class of Ruth and attended services faithfully while her health allowed. She enjoyed the fellowship of her Westway church family.
Jeanette was a remarkable woman whose determination and strength served as an inspiration to others. Her commitment to God brought love and respect from those who knew her. She enjoyed serving others, singing hymns, reading, baking, and good conversation. She was a loving daughter, sister, mother and friend. Jeanette devoted her life to caring for her family during their times of need. She also loved engaging young people, providing them with godly advice and encouragement.
After ninety seven years, Jeanette departed this life on August 20, 2012. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eli and Evelyn Kane, her sister Edverda Kane, and all of her aunts and uncles.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Diann Thurston; her first cousin, Pearl Bethea and family, and a host of extended family and friends who will miss her.
