

Duncan graduated from Rice Institute in 1937 with a BS in mechanical engineering. That same year he began a long career with Shell Oil. He served in various positions in Texas and Louisiana prior to being appointed Production Manager of the North Texas Division in 1953. The next year he became Manager of the Head Office Mechanical Engineering department and in 1959 became the Director of Production Research of the Exploration and Production Research Division of Shell development Company. In 1964 he moved to La Jolla, California to serve as President of Sonico, a Shell research subsidiary. He returned to Houston in 1970 and worked in Shell's Patents and Licensing Division until his retirement in 1981.
Duncan was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Dalton Crichlow Goodrich and his siblings Bishop Robert E. Goodrich, Jr., Baxter Dee Goodrich, Harvey Wilson Goodrich and Lewella Jean Lusk. He is survived by his sister Moye Aileen Parish of San Antonio, TX, and by his children: Jerome D. Goodrich, Jr. and wife Lucy of Austin, TX, Rev. Richard W. Goodrich and wife Christine of Spring, TX, Nancy Rebecca Ainsworth of Dallas, TX, and Mary Suzanne Greene and husband Bill of Houston, as well as by ten grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. The family knew him as the greatest fan of the Houston Rockets.
Friends may call at Waltrip Funeral Directors on Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m., where the family will be present for visitation. Graveside services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday in Memorial Oaks Cemetery.
