

Jesse Collins, Jr. was born March 12, 1930 to the late Estelle and Jesse Collins, Sr. in Houston, Texas. He attended and graduated from from Phillis Wheatley High School. Upon completing his his school education he joined the United States Army on October 16, 1950 and served three years. He was honorably discharged on October 21, 1953. Jesse graduated from Texas Southern University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture. After serving our country, Jesse returned to Houston and worked several jobs before a career of over 30 years at Dixel Manufacturing, later known as Weatherford DMC where he retired as a Supervisor. Jesse accepted Christ at a young age and was a faithful member of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church for many many and served as the church treasurer. Jesse and the late Delores R. Brooks McNeal had one son Varnel E. Collins, Sr. Jesse raised three step children: JoAnn, Deidre and John Davis during his marriage with Mary J. Pickens Collins. Preceding him in death are his parents: Jesse Collins, Sr. and Estelle B. Collins and brother Charles E. Collins. Jesse leaves to mourn: one son, Varnel E. Collins, Sr. of Houston, Texas; sister Mary Jane Collins; niece Denise Harrington (Steve) all of Federal Way, Washington; nephew Wayne Buckley of Las Vegas, Nevada; step children JoAnn Washington (George) of Kingwood, Texas, Deidre Davis of Houston, Texas and John Davis (La Chelle) of Cleveland, Texas; grandsons Varnel Jr., Jacques R., Jesse B., Terrell D; and granddaughter Fer’Nell all of Houston, Texas. He also leaves seventeen great grandchildren, a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
