Jessie Weems Hampton, 100, of Houston, TX, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother passed away on July 11, 2012. Jessie was born in Ft. Cobb, OK in 1911 and moved to Houston in 1938. Eastwood Baptist was her church home for 52 years; and most recently, she was a member of Park Place Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Paul Ross Hampton; brother, Everett Weems; and parents, John Weems and Lucy Mason Weems. Jessie is survived by her four children: Virginia Hosea of Houston; Paula Jackson of Houston; Phil Hampton and wife, Deborah, of Clear Lake; and Dr. Steve Hampton of Fredericksburg, VA. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Cynthia Jackson Cook and husband, Craig, of Houston; Sharon Hosea of Clear Lake; Sandra Jackson of Lewisville, TX; Paul Hosea of Houston; Dianna Jackson Bolling and husband, David, of Houston; and Meghan Hampton Knox and husband, Steve, of Sydney, Australia. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren: Taylor and Carrie Cook of Houston; Sheila Guerrero of Charlestown, MA; Joseph, Claire, Caroline, and Emily Bolling of Houston. Long life brings great rewards, and one of those was the joy of welcoming a great great grandchild into her heart: Abbigail Cook of Houston. For the past four years, Cynthia Delgado of Pearland and Judy Brashier of Cuero, TX lovingly cared for Mrs. Hampton at the home in which she lived since 1955. “Nanny,” as she was known to us all, was the greatest role model for her family. She put her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, first; and it showed in every aspect of her life. She was a great sounding board, giver of sage advice, generous of heart, and kind of spirit. She was a Bible teacher for young women for over three decades. She also loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and four continents. Her husband’s fondest dream was to live to be 100. Although he never realized his dream, Nanny carried it all the way to the finish for him! We miss you, Nanny, but rejoice that the two of you have reunited and will be together for eternity. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7. A graveside service, officiated by Rev. David Bolling, will be held for immediate family only. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First United Methodist Church TV Ministry, 1320 Main St, Houston, TX 77002, or Park Place Baptist Church, 4101 Broadway, Houston, TX 77087.
