

He was born on October 7, 1951, in Pasadena, Texas, to Bobby Lloyd “Buck” and Lena Marie (Musachia) Buchanan.
John was a 1970 graduate of Sam Rayburn High School in Pasadena, Texas, and went on to earn his Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement at San Jacinto College. He was an 8-year veteran of the Pasadena Police Department, fulfilling his duty to protect and serve the same community he grew up in. Later, he took his love of protecting those around him to the booming Houston-area energy industry, working for both Rohm and Haas, and The DOW Chemical Company for more than 30 years, until he retired in 2011.
Outside of his career, John was an avid baseball fan, volunteering as a Little League coach, and later, even becoming an umpire and calling numerous youth baseball games in and around the Pasadena area.
John is survived by his loving wife of 18 years, Mello Ann Buchanan, his son, Todd Buchanan and wife Brandie with grandchildren Victoria and Colton, his stepdaughter, Melinda Burkman and husband Brandon, his stepson, Michael Holley and fiancé Becca Barnes, his stepson, Joshua Holley and wife Dana with granddaughters Emma and Isabelle, his stepson, David Holley, his beautiful daughter, Kaitlyn Buchanan, brother James Buchanan and wife Lisa with nieces, Kelly and Abby, and brother, Joseph Buchanan and wife Linda with nephews, Andrew, Alex, and Adam.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 1 pm with funeral services beginning at 2 pm. All services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home.
