Johnny was born on March 21, 1943 to Juan and Guadalupe Serrano in Galveston, Texas. Johnny went to Edison Jr. high school and graduated from Milby High School in 1962, he was a star athlete of Edison and Milby earning letters in basketball and softball. Following high school, he played for the Cats in the Latino baseball league. The family spent many weekends at the ball field.
In 1954, Johnny met the love of his life, Minerva Perez. Johnny and Minerva were married on October 3, 1962 and were blessed with three daughters, Debra, Linda and Carmen.
In July 1968, Johnny started his working career earning an apprenticeship in a machine shop then was promoted as a machinist, then a pump mechanic repairer rebuilding machines at various chemical plants. Ater retiring in 2001 from Harris County he spent his time building various projects and spending time with his grandchildren.
Johnny was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Minerva P. Serrano, daughter, Debra P. Hayes, son-in-law, Kelvin Hayes, daughter, Linda P. Serrano, daughter, Carmen S. Ferguson, and son-in-law, Keith Ferguson. Grandchildren, Dane A. Powell, Sean A. Powell, Erin D. Hayes, Zion K. Ferguson. Great Grandchildren; Nathan A. Powell, Collin A. Powell and Jessica A. Powell.
Services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home 6900 Lawndale St. Houston, Texas 77023 on June 22, 2024 at 11 AM, service and burial to follow.
