Jose Garcia Rodriguez

We regret to announce the passing of Jose G. Rodriguez, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, aged 88, who passed away after a valiant fight with cancer on January 6, 2025, in Houston, Tx.

Jose was born in Gonzalez, TX on December 11, 1936, to Jesus and Mauricia Rodriguez, he was one of 7 children. He had 5 sisters, and is preceded in death by Jesusa Tijernia, Esperanza Segovia, Elisa Gutierrez, survived by Minerva Hernandez and Ernestina Hernandez. He is preceded in death by his only brother, Fernando Rodriguez. His family relocated to Corpus Christi, TX, where he spent his youth, and he later moved his family to Houston.

Jose was a devoted family man, who is survived by the “love of his life”, Gloria Rodriguez. They spent 66 wonderful years together raising a family and traveling together. He was a devoted father to Norma Rodriguez, Linda Moreno (Johnny), Jaime Rodriguez (Sylvia) and Cassandra Parker (Brandon). He was a loving grandfather “Paw Paw” to Aaron Norton, Travis Norton (Tim/Kyle), Chelsey Mendez (Andrew), Aimee Erwin (Brad), Matthew Rodriguez, Taylor Butterfield (Dane), Isabella Hernandez, Victoria Parker, and Jackson Parker. A caring great grandfather to Zoe and Barrett Erwin, Sophia and Charlotte Mendez and Rory Butterfield as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

In his free time, Jose “Joe” enjoyed all sports baseball, bowling, boxing, golf, and football. He was an avid Houston Astros, Houston Texans, and a Texas Longhorn fan. Watching sports brought him joy.

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church on January 16th, 2025, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.

Joe will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on through his family and friends.
