Joy Spaw Carson

Our loving mother, Joy Spaw Brown Van Buskirk Carson peacefully passed away April 1, 2022 at the age of 91 in Kerrville, TX. Know to her children as Mom or Mama, her nieces and nephews as Aunt Joy or “Joy-Joy”, most knew her as Joy. She was much loved by all and will greatly missed. Juanita Joy Spaw was born on Oct 31, 1930 in Houston, TX to Margaret Elizabeth Williams Spaw and Louis David Spaw, Sr. She was raised in a home to love the Lord and later influenced her own children to love the Lord as well.

She was predeceased by her parents, sister Alberta Faith Spaw, brothers: Lois David Spaw, Jr., William James Spaw, Raymond Gebhart Spaw, Robert Lynn Spaw and sisters(in-law) Wanda, Dottie, Elsie, Verla and Brenda.

Joy is survived by her husband Gerald W. Carson of Prince Frederick, MD, her children: Daniel Morris Brown and wife, Mary of Huntsville, AL; Thomas Lynn Brown and wife Tammie, of Pipe Creek, TX; Lisa Joy Badders and husband, Jeff of Kerrville, TX; and Brian Clark “Chip” Van Buskirk, Jr. and wife, Christi of Magnolia, TX; and her step-daughters: Donna Ferguson and husband, Justin of Rowlett, TX; Susie Compton of Ingram, TX; and step-son Andrew Van Buskirk of Las Vegas, NV.

Grandchildren: Jeremy (Megan) Brown, Leah (Matthew) Vest, Nathan (Rachel) Brown, Gregory (Amy) Brown, Joesph (Misty) Brown, Louis (Julie) Brown, Jeffrey O. (Ashli) Badders, Brennan Badders, Ryan (Lauren) Badders, Carly Van Buskirk, Rylee Van Buskirk, Michael (Adrianne) Ferguson, Jonathan (Bethany) Ferguson, Meagan (Daniel) Noel, Ronny (Angela) Schultz, Travis Compton, Levi (Kayle) Compton, Dylan Van Buskirk, and Hailey Van Buskirk and many, many great grandchildren!

Services will be held at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home At 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, TX 77023 on April 9, 2022. Visitation at 1:00pm, Service at 2:00pm and Interment at 3:00pm. Family and friends are welcome. Donations in memory of Joy Spaw Carson may be made in place of flowers to any cancer or breast cancer organization.
