Joyce Elaine (Clark) Weir, 79, completed her journey on earth Wednesday morning, September 5, 2018 with her daughters by her side. She was born December 8, 1938 to Edna (Gordon) Clark and James Polk Clark in Tahoka, Texas. Joyce is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, Thomas H. Weir and her parents, Edna and James Clark. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Mary Jane and Sharon; granddaughters, Faryn and Alyssa; great granddaughters Vivica and Vivianna; siblings, Carolyn Tibbitts, James P. Clark, Jr., Kathleen Miller and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
God was always first in Joyce’s life. Being a long time member of First Methodist Houston, she actively demonstrated her faith and participated in the church’s Handbell Choir from 1995 – 2015 performing numerous concerts at church and around town over the years.
A life-long educator, she joined Galena Park Independent School District (GPISD) in 1973 as a second grade teacher at Galena Park Elementary and retired 34 years later as Principal of North Shore Elementary School. While working on her Master’s Degree back in the 80’s she created a math activity called “Fast on Facts”. The Principal at the time did not think students would work for a sticker on a button, but she convinced him to let her try. As of today “Fast on Facts” has been implemented throughout this District. She has been blessed with many friendships through out the district. The day she retired, a “lunch bunch” dubbed as “The Teapot Depot Ladies” was born. Joyce loved meeting the ladies frequently to have lunch, catch up, and have a few laughs. The group continues today.
Her family was the most important thing to her on this earth. She participated in her children’s and grandchildren’s school activities and inspired them to excel in their passions. Her husband of 61 years, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren were a constant delight to her. She loved gardening, both flowers and vegetables and was up for an adventure at anytime. She loved life and said when you go out “it’s okay to eat your dessert first”.
The family wishes to acknowledge the loving care provided to Joyce by the staff of Hospice +. Jenna, Wilica, Molly and all of the staff will be remembered for their kindness to our family and their care to both our Mother and Father this past year. Joyce will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
