

Mr. Kyle Kenneth (Ken) Ponton of Houston, Texas, later Jacksonville, Florida, passed away on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at the age of 98. Ken was born on September 9, 1926 in Hallettsville, Texas, to Kyle Webb and Mary Elizabeth Ponton. He later moved to and grew up in Houston, Texas.
Ken graduated from San Jacinto High School in 1944, after which he joined the U.S Navy and fought in WWII in the South Pacific, until the end of the war. After the war, he worked for several engineering firms, retiring first from Fluor Corp., and later from SIP Corp.
Ken was actively involved in The Freeway Manor Baptist Church as an Elder and Deacon. He was a man of many interests and hobbies. Ken and Mildred loved to camp and travel with the Houston Silver Streak Travel Trailer Club. He also enjoyed playing board games. One in particular, was a game called Joker, which he showed no mercy to the other players. He also made more than 200 of these boards for family and friends
Ken was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, his parents, and brother, James Ponton. He is survived by his two sons - Mark Ponton and wife Stacie, grandson William Ponton and Ashley Blount, grandson Kenneth Ponton and Whitney, great-grandchildren Carson, Kyle, and Millie. Wayne Ponton and wife Debra, granddaughter Amanda Arnold and Eric, and great-grandson Mason Arnold.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Service at Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, TX 77023, at noon, Monday, December 30, 2024. Visitation will begin at one hour prior to Memorial Service.
Interment to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
