

Lanell is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Forest Black, to whom she was married for over 52 years. She is survived by three sons, Jimmy Forest Black, Jr. and his wife, Lorie, of Youngstown, Florida; John Paul Black and his wife, Kim, of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; and Jody Ray Black and his husband, Chad Runyon, of Walnut Creek, California.
Lanell was also blessed with the joy of grandchildren, Bryan and Tyler Black of Panama City, Renae Black of Panama City Beach, Florida; Amanda Fossett of Santa Fe, New Mexico; Taylor Black of Phoenix, Arizona; and Riley Black of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Additionally, she leaves behind four great-grandchildren.
Lanell spent most of her career as a librarian for the Harris County Bookmobile program, traveling throughout the county bringing library services to underserved communities. Beyond her family and employment, Lanell found fulfillment in her hobbies. She had a passion for reading, exploring the pages of countless stories, and expanding her knowledge. Crafting brought her great satisfaction, as she poured her creativity into beautiful cards she shared with family and friends. Lanell also enjoyed tending to her yard, going to the Houston Arboretum, and finding solace in nature's beauty.
Lanell was a member of Champions Forest Baptist Church until moving to League City.
Memorial Service will be held at Champion Forest Baptist Church Chapel 15555 Stuebner Airline Drive
Houston, TX 77069, on Tuesday, June 4, at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. Graveside services will be held at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home 13102 North Freeway Houston, TX 77060 on June 4, at 2:30 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Harris County Friends of the Library or the Houston Arboretum.
