She was born on September 12, 1960, in Houston, Texas, to James Weldon Williams Jr. and Laureta Williams Cuny. She graduated from Humble High School in 1979 and later attended the University of Houston.
A lifelong Houstonian and avid gardener, Laurette transformed her passion into a thriving full-time business, Gardeners for Hire. Throughout her 25-plus-year career as a landscaper, she cultivated warm and lasting relationships with her clients. Her dedication to her craft and the love she poured into her work were evident in the beauty she created-admired by all who saw it.
Laurette was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and a treasured member of her extended Italian family. She built friendships everywhere she went and welcomed friends into her home at any hour. No one was ever turned away; to many, she was both a mother-figure and a steadfast friend.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Weldon Williams Jr., and her grandparents, James Weldon Sr. and Eva Williams, and Salvador and Laura Maida. She is survived by her loving husband, Kevin J. McAuley; her daughters, Cristina (Bradford) Green and Natalie (Robert) Baxley; her grandchildren, Weldon, Rosie, and Wilkes Green, and Petra Baxley; her sister and brother-in-law, Eva and Kelly McDonald; and her mother, Laureta Williams Cuny.
A celebration of her life will be held on December 2nd at St. Michael The Arch Angel Catholic Church Parish Life Center 1801 Sage Rd., Houston, TX 77056, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, Wounded Warrior Project, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
