On this blessed day of September 22, 1946, a baby boy was born to the proud parents of Arnetta Linda Thorn Hawkins and Calvin Lee Hawkins in Lagrange, Texas. They lovingly named him Leon Hawkins. Leon received his education from a local school in Lagrange, Texas; Randoff High 1st through 12th grade. With the blessing of a loving mother, Leon was baptized at an early age in Lagrange in a small white church and later in life joined St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. He had a love for music, even though he could not dance. He could rock his hips with the best of them. His favorite dish was pecan pie with a side order of chicken or pork chops. His favorite place was at work. Leon was a hard working man who loved his job as an autobody painter for Miller Autobody. He worked for this business for 43 years. His employers became his extended family who loved and cherished his dedication. Leon is preceded in death by his family: Evelyn Hawkins, Leon Hawkins, Jr., Alice Hawkins, Rowena Hawkins, Leroy Hawkins, Gladys M. Williams, the Thorn family, the Martin family, the Cebrun family, Glenthia Davis, the Hiltons’ and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He leaves precious memories to his only living sibling, Gladys M. Williams. Leon is now resting in peace with his parents and siblings (Rabbit) Morris W. Hawkins, Shirley Miller and partner in life, Eula Mae Martin.
