Leroy Foster Sr., who was better known as "JT" by family and close friends, was born January 02, 1929 to Robert Foster and Delia Jones in Opelousas, LA. Early in life Leroy accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and personal savior. He joined Lilly Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Willie Powell. He later joined Mount Canon Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Compton Sr. After graduating high school Leroy served six years in the U.S. Army. On January 02, 1971 he united in holy matrimony with Shirley McGrew. He worked as a driver for World Com Trucking for six years, Mercy Freight for two years, and retired from Consolidated Freightways Local Teamster (988) after twenty-eight years. Leroy had a love for horses. Everyone could attest that at one point or another he was going to put you on a horse to ride. After the horse ride you could expect him to feed you fried chicken or fried pork chops. He was a member of the Prairie View and North East Trail Riders Association, and coordinated the trailer parking in Memorial Park. Anytime you would go to his home you could almost always find him in the stables tending to his horses. Leroy was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Miracal Foster Rohelia, parents Robert Foster and Delia Jones, five brothers, Lawrence Foster, Robert Foster Jr., Lloyd Foster, Percy Foster, J.D. Foster, and one sister, Esther Mae. He leaves to cherish his memory: his wife of forty-five years, Shirley, and between the two of them nine children: Leroy Foster Jr. (Helen) , Patricia Foster Brooks (Donald), Barbara Foster Lester (Donnie), Michael Matthews (Linda), Candace Matthews, Gregory McGrew, Gerald Williams, Karen Williams, Carlos Foster, twenty-five grandchildren: Michael Jr., Lyndavia, Latoya, Kasey, Lauren, Greg Jr., Marcel, Edison, Lucky, Tamisha, Moneka, Roderick, Willie, Chanel, Marcus, Lakeshia, Michael, Kevin, Damon, Donielle, Dondria, Carlos Jr., Genvia, Carlysia, Alajiha, and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
