Luong was born in Nam Dinh, Vietnam, on October 12, 1953 to Phuc Trong Do and Theu Thi Nguyen. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Hai Ngoc Vu; his children Khoa, Tuan, Han, Jasmine, & Bo; and his grandchildren Claire, Andrew, Aiden, Bailey, & Ella.
Luong immigrated from Vietnam to the US in 1975. He graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fort Smith in 1981 with an Associate degree in Applied Science in Mechanical Technology. After graduation, Luong worked in various roles before joining the Houston Chronicle in 1984, eventually retiring in early 2021 after an illustrious 36 year career. In his spare time, Luong did upholstery work under the trade name Luong Upholstery, where his professionalism, attention to detail and craftsmanship were appreciated by all of his customers.
Luong was a devoted member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Humble, Texas. He had a passion for fishing and DIY projects, enjoyed traveling, and walks around the neighborhood. Most importantly, he treasured spending time with his grandchildren and family. Luong will forever be remembered as a loving "papa" who embraced life to the fullest, cared for his family and always put others first.
