

Lydia Anna Romund passed away on Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the age of 98. She was born in Manheim, Texas on November 6, 1911, the second of fourteen children of August and Louise (nee Schmidt) Behrend. She was baptized November 19, 1911 in Manheim, Texas by Pastor Heinemeier and was confirmed March 28, 1926 by Reverend C. W. Rische at Ebenezer Lutheran Church.
Lydia married Albert Romund on September 19, 1937, until he died May 16, 1966. After his death, Lydia worked at Quality Feed Company in the Heights with her brother, Alton Behrend, until she retired at the young age of 80.
Lydia took great pleasure in working in her garden and her yard. She always had a bumper crop of vegetables and grew countless lilies and amaryllis in her gardens. She was also known for the fabulous homemade noodles that she cut by hand on her kitchen table. She faithfully attended Immanuel Lutheran Church so long as she was able and in later years the Thursday service at the Hamptons Assisted Living.
Although she never had any children of her own, she was well loved by her nieces and nephews. Lydia had great love for her family and, as long as she was able, attended every Behrend and Schmidt family reunion in Giddings. Lydia Romund was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, as well as her siblings, Gertrude Willmann, Edna Arldt, Albert Behrend, Herbert Behrend, Dora ¬Moerbe, and Milton Behrend. Lydia is survived by her siblings Esther Theiss, Alton Behrend, Lorene Martin, Erwin Behrend, Florence Land, Anita Markwardt, Gloria Stengel and numerous nieces and nephews. Lydia will be greatly missed by all. Pallbearers are Albert Behrend, Jr. , Ronald Behrend, Mike Bachmann, Lonnie McLead, Fred Gallard and Steven Martin. Visitation will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church 306 E. 15th St., Houston, 77008 at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 4, followed by a funeral service at 10:30 a.m.
