

Lydia Arechiga Whitcher, known affectionately as Lillian and Momo, was born in Waco, Texas on August 18, 1925. Born to John and Susie Arechiga, she was the next to the youngest of 8 children (from eldest to youngest: Joe, Eddie, Henry, Carmen, Herlinda, Johnny and Esther). Raised in Houston, Texas, she attended Pan American Presbyterian Girls Boarding School in Taft, Texas which she was very proud of and spoke of often. She returned to Houston to attend Sam Houston High School. A beautiful dancer, she dreamed of travelling the world and performing with her older brother’s dance troupe, but stayed in Houston where she met the love of her life, at a neighborhood dance at Hennesy Park. Married on December 15, 1945, at Juan Marcos Presbyterian Church, they resided in Oak Forest where they raised four beautiful children. She is preceded in death by loving husband, Charles “Coppy” Whitcher, and daughter, Sandra Whitcher Forsythe.
She is survived by children, Melissa, Barbara Ann & husband, Paul, Charles & wife, Christella and son-in-law, John; Grandchildren, Carrie & Fredy, John & Shari, Charles Alan & fiancé, Lisa, Jennifer & Marcus, Lindsey & Paul, Bryan, Amanda & Alyssa; Great-grandchildren, Arielle, Trey, Roger, Alex, Max, Allessandra, Karson, & Lillian, and sister Esther Lopez.
