

Mabel Appleman passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2011 in Houston, Texas. She was born April 29, 1925 in Greenville, Alabama; the fifth of eight children of William and Lura Black. Mabel was beloved by all who knew her and was happiest serving and caring for others. She will be greatly missed.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to Mabel’s many friends for the love and care they have provided. Special thanks to those who assisted with chemotherapy and doctor visits.
Mabel was a very active and faithful member of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church for 48 years serving on numerous boards and holding many leadership positions. She especially loved being a part of the NOAH choir, Prime Timers group and Bridgebuilders class where she served as secretary for 25 years.
Mabel is survived by three daughters: Cynthia Appleman, Debbi Adams and husband Bill, Joyce Wortham and husband Jim; two granddaughters: Michelle Perry and husband Mike, Julie Morris and husband Carter; five great-grandchildren: Keely, Laney, Rex, Lily and Kyndall. She is also survived by two sisters: Janette Black; Nell Estes and husband Harry; nephews Jay Estes and Robbie Estes and their families; and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Mabel’s life will be held at 11:00am, Monday, May 9, 2011 at Memorial Drive United Methodist Church, 12955 Memorial Drive, Houston, TX 77079.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Caring Forever Foundation of Memorial Drive United Methodist Church.
