Mamie V. Davis Lewis, Matriarch, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Caretaker and Friend, was born to the proud parents of Oliver Ray Davis and Jenny V. Walters-Davis on February 13, 1944, in Grand Cane, Louisiana. Soon after she was born, the family moved to Mansfield, Louisiana, where she was reared. There, she became a born again Christian when she was a child, and gladly served in the Choir. She graduated from Desoto High School in 1962, and moved to Houston Texas, and later became part owner and entrepreneur of a community establishment called “The Pit”. The Pit served up smoked BBQ with all the fixins!
Mamie was strong in the Lord and in her convictions; she stood for what was right and she passionately cared for everyone in her life. She spent the majority of her life in service to others, while in the medical field as a nurse. She aspired to become an LVN, due to her call for the sick and shut in. She would often pray for her patients and hold Bible sessions with many of them, bringing them to the knowledge of Christ. Mamie fervently prayed for everyone in her circle, including her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, neighbors and friends!
Family was everything to her, and she expressed her love for them by covering them with abundance of love and prayer…She would do anything within her power to help anyone! Mamie was blessed with the voice of an angel, and she had an ear for good vocal arrangements. She loved various kinds of music, including Gospel, and RnB. Her hobbies included gardening and reading.
Mamie inspired the people in her life to extend grace and love to those around them, including their enemies.
Her legacy is her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and her great-great grandchild!
