

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Manuel Gonzalez Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, who passed away peacefully in Brookshire, Texas, on December 24, 2024, at the age of 85. Born on October 30, 1939, in New Gulf, Texas, to Manuel Gonzalez and Margarita Barrajas, Manuel spent his childhood in Clute, Texas, before joining the military. He later settled in the Houston, Texas area, where he spent the remainder of his adult life.
Manuel is survived by his loving wife, Sandra Craig, and his sons: David Gonzalez, John Paul Gonzalez, and David Craig. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Petra Campos Gonzalez; his daughter, Sandra Ann Gonzalez; his son, John Anthony Gonzalez; his grandchild, Timothy Jacob Gonzalez; and all his siblings: sisters Amelia, Alicia, Angelita, Margarita, Maria, and Helena; and brothers Guadalupe, Luis, Francisco, and Juan.
Manuel’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: John Mikeal, Norma Ariel, Cecilia Sunshine, Emily Ann, David Anthony, Andrea, Connor, and Caeden; and his great-grandchildren: Abigail Rae, Zoe Nichole, James Mikeal, Hannah Rose, Torri Jasmine, Terra Jade, Quintin Troy, and Sunshine EsmieRae. He is also survived by his son-in-law, Robert Garcia, and daughter-in-law, Ana Quintero.
Manuel was a Christian who accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. His faith was a cornerstone in a life that saw many trials and hardships, and he found great strength and peace in his relationship with God.
Manuel proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army, spending part of his service overseas in Germany where he made lifelong memories. He carried the honor of being a veteran throughout his life, and his time in the military instilled in him the values of discipline and leadership that he carried into every aspect of his life.
After his military service, he dedicated himself to a hardworking career as a steel fabricator. Known for his exceptional skills, there was nothing Manuel couldn’t build. He took great pride in his role as a leader at work and formed many close friendships with his coworkers. Manuel’s work ethic and craftsmanship left a lasting impression on those who had the privilege of working with him.
Above all else, Manuel was a devoted family man who always put his wife and children at the center of his life. His love and commitment to his family were unmatched. Manuel also supported and helped countless people throughout his life, always extending a hand to those in need.
A man of strength and determination, Manuel found joy in life’s simple yet profound pleasures. His favorite hobby was hunting, a passion that connected him to nature and fueled his love for the outdoors. He also had a deep love for music and delighted those around him by playing his favorite tune with the harmonica.
Manuel was a devoted sports fan who enjoyed watching baseball, basketball, and boxing, but especially loved football. A proud supporter of Texas teams and athletes, he cheered for teams and individuals from his home state with unwavering enthusiasm. His love for sports brought him closer to his family as he supported his children in their athletic careers and spent countless time around the television watching the big sporting events with family.
Manuel also enjoyed life’s finer pleasures, from savoring good food and drinks to relaxing with a great cup of coffee and pan dulce. His appreciation for simple joys reflected his warm and grounded nature, endearing him to everyone who knew him.
In his free time, Manuel embraced every opportunity to enjoy life, share stories, and spend quality time with his family. He will be remembered for his unwavering kindness, his great generosity, his enormous heart, and his devotion to those he loved.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Manuel’s memory.
Manuel Gonzalez Jr. will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of faith, love, strength, family devotion, and passion for life will remain in our hearts forever.
