Born on March 15, 1934, Janeen was the daughter of Clarence M. Painter, Sr. and Virginia Painter. She was a lifelong Houston resident, and loved living in her family home, The Rolle House, in the Woodland Heights. The home, built by her grandparents, Maggie and Rolle Painter in 1910, served as an orphanage for many years; was lived in by generations of the Painter-Cook family; and like Janeen, encompassed love of family and community. In addition to her philanthropy, she opened her home to church members from various places across the country who came to receive cancer treatments at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
A lifelong member of the Norhill Church of Christ, and longstanding pillar of the Woodland Heights community, Janeen will be remembered for her love of Jesus, family, community, and world travel. She had a witty sense of humor, gave wise counsel, and comforted family and strangers alike.
She is survived by her daughters Margaret Laurene Tamez (Mario), Anna Lynne Smotherman (Barry), and Penny Denise Parker (Johnny), and Rhonda Cook. She was the beloved “Momo” to grandchildren Mike, Bill, and Diana Dorsey, Shane Cantwell (Kristen), Rachel Parker, Rebeccah Tamez, Mario Tamez, Jr. (Claudine), Marcus Tamez (Beth), Ian and Ari Druke, Lanann Ross (Ricky), Stephen Smotherman (Rebecca), Rebecca Bleeker, 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Clarence and Virginia Painter, and her brother C. Melvin Painter, Jr.
Janeen had a great heart for philanthropic efforts. So, the family suggests in lieu of flowers, a donation to Impact Houston Church of Christ and Depelchin Children’s Center.
