Marie Holmes was born September 21, 1936 to Burrell Holmes and Edna Gray Holmes in Natchitoches, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her father, Burrell Holmes and mother, Edna Gray Holmes, and her two siblings, Dorothy Glass Whitfield and Murray Flagg. Marie attended the public schools in Natchitoches Parish. She was a member of The Crossing Community Church in Houston, Texas under the leadership of Reverend Harvey M. Walker. She attended often until health no longer permitted. She leaves in memory her daughter Diana Bennett Holmes (Richard); her son Corey Holmes Sr. (Shondra); her sisters Rosie Washington (Clifford), Eddie Ree Dewhart (David), Joyce Jones (Johnny), Freddie Holmes; her brothers Joe Louis Flagg (Hazel) and Lonzo Charles Flagg; her grandchildren Trenton Bennett, Kori Holmes, JaCorey Holmes, Corey Holmes Jr, Colby Holmes, and Hailey Holmes.
