Marjorie S. Freeman

She raised six children all of whom felt they were her favorite. She was the Cub Scout Den Mother and Blue Bird/Camp Fire Girl leader. She was passionate about making sure they all got the best education available. She had 7 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Once you were in the family you were always part of the family as several ex-spouses can attest.

Prior to having children, she graduated from Randolph-Macon Women’s College. She was a Member of Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She did her graduate work and received her master’s at Brown University. Met the love of her life John C Freeman. Worked on the ENIAC computer. Let Albert Einstein pat her first born's head. She was a research assistant at Texas A&M in the 1950’s.

As the children became more independent, she went back to work. She taught math and physics at South Texas Junior College, which later became the University of Houston Downtown. She was an Associate Professor of Applied Mathematical Sciences at U of H Downtown

She was a long time Board Member and Officer of the Weather Research Center, and The Weather Museum of Houston continuing her love of educating young people. She was also a member of the American Mathematics Association and the American Meteorological Society

Over the years she had many dogs both pets and show dogs. Several were champions. In her later years she raised Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Including training to track.

She was a member of the American Chesapeake Club, and the Alamo Area Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club, she was President and Secretary of the South Texas Obedience Club, Editor and Member of the Board of the Southwestern Tracking Assoc.

Preceded in death by her parents, Herbert Stanley Schaefer and Helen Hummer Schaefer, husband Dr. John C. Freeman, Daughter, Margaret Freeman.

She is survived by her children: John C. Freeman III and wife, Sylvia; Walter H. Freeman and wife, J. Lane; Jill F. Hasling and husband, Dave; Cathy F. Brill and husband Greg , Helen Freeman and husband Allen Powers, Paul D. Freeman and wife, Martha; grandchildren and extended family members include Grandson Brett M. Freeman and wife, Jennifer, daughters Hailee and Hannah and Brett's mother, Shirley Hodge; Grandson Brook Freeman, Granddaughter Grace Godinez and husband Steven and children Ariana, Sophie, Nina, Joe, and Renee , Granddaughter Jackie Hasling Bamblett and husband Dan Bamblett and son Cody , Grandson Scott Disch and wife Rhianna, daughters Scarlett and Blaire, Granddaughter Christina Disch Cahill and husband Kevin, children, Bradley, Weston and Lizzie. Scott and Christi’s father, James Disch; and Granddaughter Meredith Freeman.

A life to be celebrated. A life we will remember with pride and love.
