

Born June 10, 1930, a “Heights Girl”, she graduated Reagan High School in 1948. Her Christian faith began as a cradle roll member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was an active member for 63 years. Her leadership there included Sunday School teacher/director, choir member, WMU missions director, annual homecoming coordinator, Keenagers as both a leader and a member and even church secretary to numerous pastors. She worked diligently with lifetime friends in all of the church ministries. A Texas State Historical Marker stands in front of Emmanuel Baptist Church today due to her longtime dedication. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother & a very special Aunt. Four generations of her family have been touched through her leadership and dedication to the Lord. She was a faithful member at numerous churches throughout her lifetime, they include Jersey Village Baptist Church, First Baptist Church Huffman and her current church was Clay Road Baptist Church in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, of 25 years, W.F. Marion, mother Verda May Kennedy, father Emil Mark Kennedy, sister LaVerne Kennedy Bassett. She is survived by her husband of 19 years Henry Harmon Golden, mother-in-law Winnie Marion, brother-in-law Don Marion & wife Jo Ella, daughters Gail Oakley & husband Mike, Janet Hunt & husband Randy & Cheryl LeMaire & husband Scott, Step-daughter Rebecca Marquart & husband Terry. Grandchildren Michael “Bear” Oakley & wife Natalie, J.P. Oakley & wife Victoria, Aaron Oakley & wife Christina, Chelsea Overhuls & husband David, Jeffery Hunt & Rebekah LeMaire. 5 Great-Grandchildren & numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and cherished friends.
The family will receive visitors on Tuesday, July 30, 2013 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Heights Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at 10:00 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 809 Northwood, Houston, Texas 77009 with Rev. David Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Hollywood Cemetery, 3506 North Main Street, Houston, Texas 77009.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Jersey Village Baptist Church, 16518 Jersey Drive, Houston, Texas 77040, Missions Program.
