

Mary was born August 6, 1924 in Brockton, Massachusetts to Ralph and Christina Damato.
Mary married Newton Mercer on June 1st, 1947 and they raised 3 children together. She completed her nursing training in 1947 at Somerville City Hospital and worked as an RN until well into her 70’s.
Mary was a devout Catholic and a parishioner at St. Jerome Catholic Church who was dedicated to her family and her friends. Mary was a strong, selfless woman who inspired many and was loved by all.
Mary is survived by her loving children, son Bill and wife Rosemary, son Lindy and daughter Becky; Mary's grandchildren: Christina, Billy, Jeremiah, Tony, and Ricky and by her great grandchildren: Joseph, Christopher, Nicholas, Madeline and William. She is also survived by her twin sister Anna, sister Josephine, and many, many friends.
Family and friends gathered for a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 4th in the chapel of Waltrip Funeral Directors, 1415 Campbell Road in Houston, where Deacon Dan O'Dowd recited the Rosary at 7:30 p.m.
The Funeral Liturgy began at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5th in the sanctuary of St. Jerome Catholic Church, 8825 Kempwood Drive in Houston, with Reverend Monsignor Dan Scheel as celebrant.
Following the service and a reception, family and friends departed for the Rite of Committal in Memorial Mission Mausoleum at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer, also in Houston.
Mary loved flowers. Some of her favorites were yellow roses, carnations & daisies.
