Max Rolf Kerr, age 90, rounded third and headed for home one final time on July 21, 2025. Surrounded by his loving family, he slid safely into the arms of his Savior, Jesus—closing out a life well-played and full of meaning.
Born on February 6, 1935, to Max and Antoinette Kerr, Rolf was the eldest of four and learned early the value of integrity and timing—a lesson he carried like a steady glove throughout every inning of life. Alongside siblings Kenneth, Becky, and Linda, he grew up with a strong moral compass and a love for people that never waned.
Rolf was preceded in death by his first wife of 44 years, Joan Adams Kerr, his parents Max and Antoinette Kerr, his brother Kenneth, sister Becky Kinney, and granddaughter Torrey Hillstrom.
He leaves behind his beloved wife and teammate, Shirley; his children Debbye, Rick (Susan), Danny (Lisa), and Wendee; stepdaughter Alana (Josh) Andress; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and a dugout full of extended family and friends.
Known for his motto, “A new friend is just a stranger I haven’t met yet,” Rolf was a Hall-of-Famer when it came to spreading kindness. Whether serving in the Army Corps Reserves for 13 years, earning Outstanding Cadet of the Year at Allen Military Academy, or simply offering a listening ear, he brought his A-game to every interaction.
A true utility player in life, Rolf wore many uniforms—faithful Methodist, beloved member of Cheerful Clown Alley, and cherished Santa Claus, especially when visiting children in hospitals. His sense of humor could light up a room like a fireworks show after a ninth-inning grand slam.
Together with Shirley, Rolf volunteered at Tomball Hospital and served on mission trips to Mexico with the Rotary Club. He was a proud Mason, serving as Worshipful Master of Anson Jones Lodge #1313, always guided by faith, friendship, and a commitment to service.
Whether he was in his workshop building something with love, cheering on the Astros from his favorite chair, or at the track rooting for Kyle Busch, Rolf was always ready to share a laugh, lend a hand, or make a new friend.
Rolf’s love story with Joan lasted 44 years and brought four wonderful children into the world. After Joan’s passing, he found a second chance at love with Shirley—his partner in both joy and service—whose thoughtful “all-occasion” cards became treasured family keepsakes.
As a proud Son of the Republic of Texas, Rolf lived each day with heart, hustle, and hope. His life was a grand slam of faith, family, and friendship—and his legacy will live on in every person who was lucky enough to be part of his lineup.
Now, having finished the game of life with strength and grace, Rolf has hit the greatest HOME RUN of all—eternal rest in Heaven, likely still cracking jokes and looking for new strangers to turn into friends in the stands of glory.
